Raw Honey as Cough Remedy

Raw Honey as Cough Remedy

Cough due to upper respiratory tract infection (URI) or cough without preceding infection is extremely common among children. Most prescribed and over-the-counter preparations for cough in children are ineffective. A single dose of raw honey before bedtime was shown in recent studies to diminish cough and the discomfort experienced by children.

Raw Honey

There is increasing evidence that a single dose of raw honey might reduce mucus secretion and reduce cough in children. Accumulating evidence suggests that honey might have a role in treating cough and cold in children, a recommendation made by the World Health Organization as early as 2001.

Raw Honey for Children

Raw honey can be recommended as a natural remedy with a single dose of 2.5 ml before bedtime for children older that 1 year of age.

The leatherwood honey drops is probably one of the most convenient treatment for sore throat and cough, especially when I am driving. Just pop and go. It is comforting to know that its pure honey, so no worry about addictive. The only worry is that one may eat too much because it is so yummy.
